A Dollar Short
When I was much younger, my Grandfather gave me a dollar bill. He told me to hold onto it and I would never be broke. I don’t remember how old I was at the time, but I apparently wasn’t old enough to hold onto money.
Although I initially kept the dollar tucked away in my wallet, I eventually lost track of it. I don’t know if I mistakenly spent it, or if I forgot to transfer it over after getting a new wallet. The details don’t really matter I suppose. Either way the dollar is still gone.
And now, so is my Grandfather. He died a few weeks ago from complications resulting from a stroke he had over a year ago.
I don’t need the dollar to remember him, but it still would have been nice to have a reminder of him with me. And I’ll always regret losing it. I’m not broke, but I definitely feel poorer.

Very nice expression of you felt about your grandfather. My sympathies to your family. Maybe that dollar will turn up some day!
