I guess that considering the success Johnny Cash had with his versions on non-country songs like Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt”, it’s not surprising that other country artists have taken a stab at the same formula. Glenn Campbell recently released an album of covers from bands such as Foo Fighters and Green Day, for example.
The latest country singers to jump on the bandwagon are the Oak Ridge Boys. They’ve recorded a version of The White Stripes song “Seven Nation Army”. It’s not as effective as Cash’s reinventions or as enjoyable as Campbell’s covers, but it works better than I expected.
You can listen to it here and see if it makes you jump and holler.
