I haven’t really followed baseball all that closely for several years. Actually, I haven’t followed baseball even tangentially for a while. As a result, I only discovered last week that Don Mattingly is now managing the Dodgers.

Naturally, this means that I am now a Dodgers fan.

Mattingly was always my favorite player, and it was pretty frustrating to watch as he never made it to a World Series or into the Hall of Fame. Considering the shape that the Dodgers club and ownership are now in, I suspect that I’m headed for more frustration in the coming season. But this is baseball, and it’s Spring Training, so I’m feeling a little more hopeful than I normally do.
