Philosopher Julian Baggini discusses how The Simpsons treats philosophy. I agree with the following assessment of the show.

It is, quite simply, one of the greatest cultural artefacts of our age. So great, in fact, that it not only reflects and plays with philosophical ideas, it actually does real philosophy, and does it well.

It has always been one of the most thoughtful shows on television, and I imagine that people will be watching its reruns long after most of its peers have been forgotten.
