The Lou Reed song, What’s Good, ends with the following line: Life’s good but not fair at all. I thought it was an odd statement when I first heard the song. But after thinking about it, I realized that Reed was right on target with the idea. For the doubtful among you, I provide the following illustration of how true Reed’s remark is.

Life’s good
We live in a world in which we are able to enjoy the singing of Cyndi Lauper.

Life’s not fair
Madonna is more successful than Cyndi.
