Last night while Doodle and I were leaving Target, a guy approached us in the parking lot and asked for some money for food. Like most people probably do, I assumed that he didn’t actually want money for food. So I offered him one of the Lunchables I had just bought. He took it, thanked me and went on his way. I decided not to see if he moved on to someone else in the parking lot.

I don’t get approached like this very often, so I’m not sure how I would handle it if it were a daily occurrence. But I generally give people a couple of bucks in situations like that, even though I’m pretty sure they aren’t actually looking for food or gas money or whatever else they say it is for. While I lose a few bucks now and then, I figure I’m already cynical enough. I don’t want to get to the point that I automatically turn people away in situations like that.
