The recent release of Ben Stein’s documentary “Expelled” has raised the often debated topic of the compatibility of science and religion. Quite a few religious folks are distrusting of science in general, since they think that many scientists try to use science to explain away religion. Defenders of science will frequently respond by saying that science doesn’t deal with the same questions as religion, so it doesn’t have anything to say about religion.

Personally, I think that religious issues are ultimately metaphysical in nature, and therefore, beyond the scope of science. That doesn’t mean that religious believers are being paranoid though. Just check out this article in New Scientist entitled “Religion a figment of human imagination“.
